This year I'm taking you through a lawn treatment program that I developed. This is step #1 and should be applied in early spring, right after the ground begins to thaw, prior to any vigorous turf growth. I also recommend you toss some grass seed in the thin spots in conjunction with this first application of fertilizer.
Keep in mind, I recommend a hybrid lawn care program that starts with smart use of chemicals (mainly for weed control) and synthetic fertilizers couples with organics. This program is for lawns in bad shape - and we use the hybrid approach to get fast results - then take the lawn, over time, to a 100% organic treatment program. Here is a video I did on "how much fertilizer do I put on the lawn?" that will be helpful to you as you apply fert this season http://youtu.be/qMJf4m82VcI Comments are welcome!
